About the current hospital in Ulm Germany:
In Baden-Württemberg region in Germany the Ulm University Hospital (UKU) is one of four university hospitals and the largest hospital from the north-east to the south of the state.
As the largest employer in the region, the UKU is an important driver of growth and innovation. With its 29 clinics and 16 institutes, it offers patients in the region and beyond the highest level of inpatient and outpatient medical care.
Ulm University Hospital (UKU) from structure point of view has two parts:
RKU: Rehabilitationskliniken Ulm GmbH and RKU Invest GmbH and
DUU: Universitätsklinikum Ulm (DUU)
The existing Ulm University Hospital in figures:
- Over 7,000 employees in medicine, nursing and administration (incl. subsidiaries)
- Around 4,000 students at the Faculty of Medicine at Ulm University
- 800 trainees, 200 students, 300 graduates at the UKU Academy for Healthcare Professions
- 100 pupils at the RKU nursing school
- over 55,000 inpatients per year
- Over 300,000 outpatient quarterly cases
- 1,274 planned beds at the UKU
- 241 beds at the RKU
- In 2024, 3,855 children were born at the UKU
- The average length of stay at the UKU is around 7days (as of 2024)
What was the reason that we choose to build a new state of the art hospital in Ulm Germany?
Building a new state of the art hospital in Ulm (Germany)
The current capacity of the existing Ulm hospital does not cover the needs of the city of Ulm and its surroundings.
It is extremely important for us that Ulm as a city has a quality medical university and nursing school, which is of great importance for our work both in Germany and elsewhere in Europe and even in the United Kingdom.
The new hospital in Ulm (Germany) is currently underway.
Instigated and funded completely by the Z Kos Foundation where according to calculations, the estimated cost of building the hospital and additional staff buildings, along with all the equipment needed for the hospital itself, will exceed €145,000,000. This estimate does not include all the land for the hospital itself and for the block of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom flats for the staff which was already paid by the foundation.
In this case so far new hospital in Ulm is concerned, we are talking about mutual benefit.
A new state of the art hospital in Ulm Germany exposed: Our vision for Ulm hospital
The new hospital in Ulm (Germany) is currently underway. Instigated and funded by the Z Kos Foundation.
The foundation has accrued adequate land of 38,218m² for a 1022 bed hospital, with a special department for caner patients with 81 beds in addition of 1103 beds in total. In addition the foundation accrued 17,462m² nearby for hospital staff accommodation.
Having in mind that Ulm has University for medicine (Medical Faculty) which offer 67 degree programs in 4 faculties it is imperative for Zdenko Kos Foundation to obtain the necessary staff for both patients and care itself, and last but not least for further researcher in all levels. Such approach is very constructive as fit both sides, giving students opportunity for work and development while on the other site give Zdenko Kos Foundation much-needed personnel. Having in mind that from steps 1 to 5 to build a new hospital take years, the much-needed personnel will be ready for new challenges in the new hospital.

- Getting planning consent
- Start building the hospital
The length from 1-5 could be up to 3 years even to start with building. From start to end it might take even up to 7 years.

The entire pack has been submitted with solicitor's firm in Ulm who are responsible to apply for Planning Permission for building the hospital as proposed.

Due to the solicitor's advice till Planning Permission is not granted by the Ulm authorities, the entire plans and drawings not to be shown as there might be some changes to be made on request of the authorities
